WIGAN MUSIC COLLECTIVE

every Friday at The Tudor House Hotel.

Jun 6

incoming: LOS!

Los are a three-piece from London. They combine grunge, punk and soul with a raw and gutsy blues sound that’s been described as true broken heart music. Fronted by angelic looking blonde Helen Sargent, their last single was single of the week by Rock Sound, and the band have been causing a stir in venues across the UK. The band play The Tudor this Friday (11th June) and recently caught up with us for a chat..

WMC: Hi Los, wasssssssssssssssssssup?

Los: …

WMC: You’re about to embark on a summer tour, pumped?

Los: VERY. We love touring more than anything else about being in a band.

WMC: You’re very poplar here, are you looking forward to returning?

Los: Yes.. we always feel at home at venues like The Tudor and have various places around the UK that support us like we’re a local band.

WMC: How would you describe you’re sound to someone who has yet to hear you?

Los: Dirty grunge blues with soulful vocals. Different.

WMC: Who came up with the name?

Los: Chris our guitarist - who’s half Spanish. It means ‘THEM’ or ‘THE’ and it was a bit of a dig at all the bands at the time who kept putting THE before their band name.

WMC: You push the DIY music ethic, which is always cool, why did you decide on doing everything off your own backs?

Los: You can have complete creative control and don’t have to worry about someone telling you whether it’s commercial enough or not. Also, unless a label are going to offer us a decent deal then there’s no point in letting someone take a high percentage of your earnings when you can do it all yourself, from printing cds and t-shirts to selling them online.

WMC: Tell us a joke?

Los: Your mum.

WMC: Best and worse gig?

Los: Best gig for me (Helen) was playing at a metal fest all dayer in Brighton and being sure we were going to get bottled off stage but the whole crowd got behind us and we sold more CDS than at any other gig! And we got a new management company sign us from that gig. Worst gig.. probably when Dan got so annoyed with the crappy in-house drum kit in Edinburgh that he threw it off the stage.

WMC: Any particular awesome bands you’ve recently played with?

Los: Played with The Ghost of a Thousand who were cool.

WMC: Who are you influenced by?

Los: Me personally, Jeff Buckley & Nina Simone. The guys love early 90s old school punk and grunge bands.

WMC: Any plans to play abroad?

Los: Germany - Open Flair Festival - with Bad Religion and Therapy - Friday August 13th.. WOOOP!

WMC: Finally, what can we expect on Friday 11th of June?

Los: A messy, loud, in your face, unrelenting 30 minutes of music
