incoming: CHOPPING WOOD!

Chopping Wood from sean lyness on Vimeo.

Blackburn, Lancashire - name checked in ‘A Day in the Life’ by The Beatles; home to Blackburn Rovers; spawned Chopping Wood. The four-piece post-hardcore outfit are kicking up a stink in the North-West at the minute with their defined sound of punk-soaked angst rock. We don’t know that much about these four individuals bar they like animals, pictures of animals and eating animals, but definitely not..* They recently played a jaw dropping show for us at The Tudor and shortly after we caught up with Dan (vocals) for some kinky Q&A..

*bad beastialty joke removed.

WMC: Hello Chopping Wood, how are you?

Dan: Okedoke Fandabidozie!!

WMC: Have any of you ever chopped wood?

Dan: Yes.

WMC: If you had to chop someone’s wood off whose would it be?

Dan: Nicholas Lyndhurst’s.

WMC: Who came up with the name Chopping Wood?

Dan: Michelle Chadwick. She is the barmaid at the Blackhorse in Accy, where we meet up before practice. she thought Rick was a lumberjack cause of his massive muscles.

WMC: Enough with the wood, can you think of any decent bands that rhyme with chopping?

Dan: The Fall.

WMC: Tell us some of your major influences?

Dan: Limp Bizkit. Terry Wogan.

WMC: You’ve just shot some cool music videos; tell us about them and the concepts behind them?

Dan: We like eating chips and animals. So we mixed um’ together. Delicious.

WMC: Who should we be listening to right now?

Dan: Young Widows. Silent Front. Nikowski. Shield Your Eyes. Fists. Hammers. Megadeath. Billy Childish. Pig Village. Rick Hall.

WMC: You played a blinder for us at The Tudor a couple of weeks ago, how do you think it went?

Dan: Me and Si had a well good time. The other two didn’t.

WMC: Dan’s in Apes Fight Back, Daniel in The BrownOrangeBlueBand, and I bet the rest of you were in really good other bands too, how did CW end up coming together?

Dan and Rick had just finished Deaf Circuit and that wanted to start something else. I came in to do vocals for shits and giggles, but we needed a bass player. Fortunately I live with Simon who used to be in a well shit indie band and wanted to run around like a knob head, so he joined us.

WMC: How would you describe your sound to someone who has been unfortunate enough not to of heard you?

Dan: Being strangled by a gay gorilla whilst rolling down six flights of stairs, but with a proper nice cup of tea at the end.

WMC: Best and worse show you’ve done so far?

Dan: The best was Big hands in Manchester in April. The worst was at Satan’s Hollow also in Manchester. Which was very uncomfortable.

WMC: You all look pretty mean, whose the actual hardest though?

Dan: Rick (ANVILCUSTARDCREAMPIEFACESEXSLUGRIGHTANGLECRUSHERBRICKWALL) Hall.

What does the rest of 2010 hold for CW?

Dan: Things.
